Here is the code using python:
import sys, re
s =» «)
for x in s:
if «book» in x:
print x

What do I have to do to make a variable retain its value while moving through my code?

I have a game I’m writing and I need a function to move a player’s sprite across the screen. I need the function to have a variable that keeps track of the player’s x-position. Right now I have:
function move() {
if (player.x frame.screen.width / 2) {
if (player.y > frame.screen.height — player.height — 50) {

What I need is for player.x to stay at what it was when the function called the first time, but I’m not sure what to do in order to get that behavior. Currently it seems like the sprite is just being moved as quickly as possible, and it looks like the sprite keeps going back to the left and right sides of the screen while moving upward. What do I need to do to make this function call-and-move the sprite as smoothly as possible while retaining the value of player.x when the function is called for the first time?

If you’re using the x/y positions to control the player sprite, and not the player’s x/y locations themselves (which is what I assume by the «x/y positions» comments, please correct me if I’m wrong), then you’re going to have to «mirror» the position of player.
player.x = frame.screen.width / 2 — player.x;
player.y = frame.screen.height — player
