A typical computerised drafting system used for modelling and drafting of buildings and infrastructure in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
AutoCAD is used by architects, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, geospatial professionals, construction management professionals, building and home designers, construction contractors, and building inspectors. Its major users are in the construction, construction contracting, engineering, and building trades industry, and are the largest users of commercial CAD software.
AutoCAD has an optional component package called Design Central, which is an add-on software suite that adds the following functionalities to AutoCAD: Design Review (autodesk.com/review), Technical Review (autodesk.com/technicalreview), and Study Central (autodesk.com/studysub).
AutoCAD was developed by Bill Gates’ graduate student Matthew Smith at the University of Utah. Smith began work on AutoCAD in 1975, and completed it in 1982. The first version of AutoCAD was 3.0 (1982), and was used by him in the final stages of writing his Ph.D. dissertation on technical knowledge engineering. The first products sold were use of the new system in Smith’s office, and was included on a shareware basis. This shareware system (AutoCAD 1.0) was available in the beginning of 1982, and as of 2018, has been in continuous support and development since 1982.
Smith and several colleagues founded Autodesk Inc. on December 30, 1982, to market AutoCAD and other products under their own brand. Autodesk acquired an early team member, Colin MacRae, who had developed a 3D co-ordinate system, to form the basis of AutoCAD. MacRae introduced his concepts to Autodesk, and was the project architect for the new design system, bringing the company’s first logo into existence.
The first AutoCAD version to be published and sold was 2.5 (1984). The first customer delivery of AutoCAD was a drawing of a telecommunications center in Salt Lake City, Utah. AutoCAD 2.5 introduced several new features. The 2.5 release also introduced windowing capability in AutoCAD, which is still a standard feature.
In 1987, Autodesk expanded their product line by introducing a specialized AutoCAD variant called Architectural Design Suite (AD Suite), which was designed to serve

Architects and other architects use AutoCAD Architecture (ACA) to design spaces. The interior can be displayed using the AutoCAD Mechanical or Architectural 3D interfaces. Complex spatial relationships are supported, including 3D scene management, non-orthogonal display, and label placement and graphics.
The program itself contains a simple set of constraints to help architects arrange design components.

So much has been going on around here that it has been a little hard to keep up with everyone. Friday was a big day in the lives of my family as my husband’s mom celebrated her birthday. She turned 70! That is soooo old. My step-mom was over today and we went out to lunch for her birthday. I am grateful for her because I don’t have any more grandparents and seeing her, having lunch and talking was very good.
One of the things I miss most is having my own family. I got married because my husband
