As a traditional 2D drafting program, it began as a successor to the AutoLISP programming language, which had been used to develop AutoCAD in the early 1980s. At the time of AutoCAD’s first release, the AutoLISP programming environment was being offered as a stand-alone product from Autodesk. In the later 1990s, the company was developing AutoLISP as a means to use the same software on the Internet, but the project never took off. In 1998, Autodesk acquired AutoCAD’s primary rival, Softimage. AutoCAD and Softimage were eventually combined in a common technology foundation called dBase. The CAD market was different in the 1980s, and Autodesk needed a new, more sophisticated program. In the early 1990s, Autodesk released AutoCAD LT (formerly AutoCAD Workbench), a new product featuring a graphical user interface. Because of the limitations of the Windows 3.1 operating system at the time, Autodesk developed a Windows 3.1 compatible version, but this version remained an «experimental» product. The first official AutoCAD Release was AutoCAD LT, followed by the original AutoCAD Release in 1993. The first AutoCAD release also included the option to purchase «Professional Edition», a version of AutoCAD containing add-on products such as the «Technical Products Suite». The Professional Edition was also sold by its own installer. Both the LT and Professional Editions ran in DOS mode, but could also run in a command prompt in Windows 3.1 mode. The original LT version of AutoCAD could also be run on Windows 3.0 and Windows 95, and was bundled with the Windows NT operating system and could run under Windows 98. Starting with AutoCAD 2007, Autodesk discontinued the traditional desktop version of AutoCAD, and only offered two versions: AutoCAD LT for Windows and AutoCAD for Mac OS X. AutoCAD LT for Windows is a graphical user interface-only version of AutoCAD. AutoCAD for Mac, a version of AutoCAD for Mac OS X, is available for Mac OS X 10.5 and later. AutoCAD LT for Windows requires Windows Vista or later. Starting with version 2015, a command-line interface for AutoCAD is available on Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems. Reverse engineering The CADF software Reverse Engineering Studio is used to reverse engineer Autodesk’s AutoCAD files and to create C++ interfaces for the reverse engineering. AutoCAD 2015 features a «new Reverse Engineering tool that automatically captures and uncovers Autodesk’s custom code and AutoLISP during file exchange, just as a printer or camera captures an image». Reverse engineering is also supported for AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD Electrical. For some time, the functions of the AutoCAD LISP were implemented in Java and later replaced by the Visual LISP component for AutoCAD 2017. AutoCAD’s LISP is similar to the Visual LISP scripting engine. Documentation Documentation is available from the Autodesk website. On the AutoCAD website, the AutoCAD Online Library section contains manuals, software setup, software installation instructions, installation video, AutoCAD communities and other Autodesk material. Version history AutoCAD 2009 (and earlier versions) was available for the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. As of AutoCAD 2010, support for Linux was dropped. AutoCAD 2011 was the first version to support the 64-bit Microsoft Windows platform. An AutoCAD 2010 script that takes advantage of these features and others has been released, the, which is still under active development. It is a free update for AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD 2011 users. AutoCAD 2013 supports 64-bit operating systems. In AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD LT became an X64 build, even though AutoCAD was still a 32-bit application. AutoCAD 2015 was the first to include 64-bit architecture. AutoCAD Architecture and AutoCAD Electrical are both 64-bit applications. AutoCAD 2015 also offers a new 64-bit scripting engine called Visual LISP. AutoCAD 2016 provides 64-bit architecture for Autodesk Sketchbook, AutoCAD Architecture, and AutoCAD Electrical, and released a 64-bit version of AutoCAD LT for the Mac operating system. AutoCAD 2018 was the first version to include 64-bit architecture. AutoCAD 2019 supports 64-bit architecture for Autodesk Navisworks. In AutoCAD 2020, AutoCAD Architecture is 64-bit and full 2D drawing objects are also 64-bit (support for 64-bit af5dca3d97

In the **Flatten** dialog box, select the **Select Output File Path** option and browse for the **.stl** file you just exported to the printer. **FIGURE 11-9 Select the type of print file to output from AutoCAD.** You’re almost ready to start exporting your work. You have a few options: * **Output To SD Card** —The output is saved on the SD card. * **Output To Printer** —The output is sent to the printer. To output to a printer or SD card, choose the **File** tab | **Workbench** | **Output** menu item and select **Save**. You’ll be asked to name the file. You can use any filename you like, but make sure it’s in _AutoCAD_ format. 1. Choose the **File** tab | **Workbench** | **Output** menu item and select **Save As**. 2. In the **Save As** dialog box, type a name for the output file in the **Save as Type** drop-down menu and then choose the **Save to Printer** or **Save to SD Card** option from the **Save as type** drop-down menu. Click **Save**. 3. Your output file is now saved. ## EXPORTING FROM AUTOCAD Here’s how to export your model: 1. Choose the **File** tab | **Workbench** | **Export** menu item. 2. In the **Export** dialog box, specify the following: * **Geometry** —Click the **Geometry** tab, and under the **Options** drop-down menu, choose **Solid** or **Surface**. For the **Flatten** option, choose the type of solid you exported previously. If you didn’t flatten the model, check the **Include bitmap image** option. (It’s not useful for a solid.) Click **OK**. * **File Format** —Select one of the following options: * **AutoCAD
